Adobe Acrobat Application Issues

FAQ Menu

If you have questions about entering information on PDF forms click here.

The Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners uses Adobe Acrobat to display many documents and forms as PDF's.  The Board is not responsible for the maintenance of this program, and can offer only limited help with the operation of the Adobe Reader program and its functionality with the Board's PDF forms.  Several factors beyond the control of the Board office can interfere with the operation of the PDF forms.  Such factors include:

  • Your individual connection to the Internet

  • Your computer

  • Other software running on your computer

  • The Internet in general (web site hosting issues and other connectivity problems beyond the control of the board office).

If the list of Frequently Asked Questions and Responses does not address an issue you have or the response does not solve your individual troubles, you can try reading Adobe's documented trouble shooting steps here.

Commonly asked Questions

  1. I get a blank screen when I click on the form's link off of the web site.

  2. This problem mainly occurs with the larger PDF files (the application forms for instance).  The reason for this is usually due to a poor Internet connection, and some known Adobe Reader issues.  To solve this problem DOWNLOAD the form to your hard drive.  Detailed instructions for this procedure can be found here.

  1. I receive several JavaScript Errors.  What does this mean?

  2. The most likely cause for this error is a complication with an older version of the Adobe Reader.  Adobe has made several versions of its Reader software over the years, and only the most current version will work with the Board's PDF forms.   This is because there is a great deal of JavaScript code language (a common computer language) in the forms.  Download the latest version of the Reader from Adobe's web site here.

  1. How do I DOWNLOAD the Adobe Reader program?

  2. When you arrive at the Adobe web site you are presented with THREE steps to download the program.  Select your operating system first (usually Windows 95/98 is the most used operating system), then fill in your name and email address, and finally select the DOWNLOAD button (step 3).  You will see another web page appear which will thank you for downloading the Reader program.  This is normal.  After a few seconds, another window should open like the one below.  This window is prompting you where you would like to save the file.  Select a folder from the SAVE IN field at the top, and then click the SAVE button.  The download will take approximately 20-25 minutes based on a standard 56K connection.

When you are finished downloading the file, you need to INSTALL the Reader.  This is done by simply double clicking on the file named AR405ENG.EXE located in the directory in which you saved the file.
