Applicants seeking admission under Pa.B.A.R. 204 may seek a courtesy review of their application. Applicants seeking a courtesy review MUST pay by check or money order and MUST NOT pay with a credit card. Credit card transactions will not be refunded.
As a convenience to applicants seeking admission under Pa.B.A.R. 204, a courtesy review will automatically be conducted for applicants that pay by check or money order. The courtesy review will be limited to review of an applicant’s presentation that the applicant has devoted “a major portion of time and energy to the practice of law” for a period of “five years of the last seven years immediately preceding the date of filing” as the rule requires. This is the only review board staff will conduct prior to accepting any application. See the board’s policy on advisory opinions. Applicants will have the option of withdrawing their application after a courtesy review by board staff. Board staff will conduct such a review only after receiving a complete application. Do not call the Board office for a courtesy review. Make sure you have determined that you are practicing in a reciprocal jurisidiction before completing the online application. Also, please review the Board's policy on the interpretation of "a major portion of time and energy to the practice of law."
Applicants seeking such a courtesy review may not pay by credit card. Credit card transactions will be processed immediately and will not be refunded. Applicants seeking a courtesy review must pay by a certified check, cashier's check, law firm check, corporate check or money order payable to the "Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners" in the appropriate amount by the applicable deadline(s). Personal checks will not be accepted, nor will any application be accepted until all fees are paid. Please see the fee schedule for deadlines and fee requirements.
Background information pertaining to character, education, employment, military service, financial responsibility and criminal history will be required in conjunction with the application. The application and all third party materials (if applicable) comprise the application file. The Board staff reviews the application file to determine other means of investigation necessary for the Executive Director to provide the initial character and fitness determination. Please read the Board's statment on candor before beginning your online application.
All 204 applicants must complete and submit the appropriate bar application via online filing.
